Food transport is one of the most demanding fields in the TSL industry. It is subject to rigorous standards and regulations aimed at ensuring food safety and protecting consumer health. What requirements must it meet? food transportto meet the expectations?

Food distributionand requires maintaining appropriate conditions during transport, the aim of which is to protect the goods against loss of nutritional and taste values, the consequence of which may be a threat to the health or even life of consumers. Goods intended for consumption are usually very sensitive to changes in temperature and moisture, so it is crucial to comply with legal regulations related to them food transport. 

There are many provisions in Polish legislation relating to the transport of food distribution. The basic ones are the Food and Nutrition Safety Act of August 25.08.2006, 852 and European regulations, including: Regulation No. 2004/29.04.2004 of the European Parliament and of the Council on the hygiene of foodstuffs of 178/2002/28.01.2002. and Regulation No. 01.09.1970/XNUMX of the European Parliament and of the Council of XNUMX/XNUMX/XNUMX, which establishes the Food Safety Authority and establishes the general principles and requirements of food law and introduces procedures in the field of food safety. Another important provision is the agreement on the international transport of perishable food products and on special means of transport intended for such transport, signed on September XNUMX, XNUMX in Geneva.

If you want to transport animal products, you must have one veterinary permit for transport, which is tantamount to reporting such services to the state veterinary inspectorate. Additionally, each driver - distributor of food products is obliged to have a current Sanitary and Epidemiological Service book. In addition, you must adapt your business to the regulations set out in the ISO 22000:2005 standard regarding food safety management systems and adapt transport conditions to the requirements specified in the ATP convention. 

What does this mean in practice? Food transportand must be carried out in vehicles that provide appropriate conditions. Most often in food distribution isothermal trailers are used, which ensure constant temperature and humidity conditions regardless of the conditions outside. In the case of frozen foods, they will be irreplaceable refrigerated trucks allowing for transportation of food at temperature even -20 degrees C.

There is no doubt that food products have different transport requirements. However, during food transport in any case, you must follow a few basic rules. As distributor of food products you must ensure the appropriate temperature during transport, which is specified by the product manufacturer. Moreover, some goods should not be transported close to each other (e.g. apples and bananas), because this may shorten their shelf life. The need to ensure the cleanliness and hygiene of the vehicle is also crucial. You must also remember to properly mark the vehicle in accordance with the requirements for the specific group of products transported. And finally - in case food transport timely deliveries are crucial, as they may shorten the shelf life and quality of the goods.
